The World Bistro

is a monthly activity, connecting people and cultures through food.

Each month we will celebrate and enjoy a different ethnic cuisine, prepared by local people

of different cultures.

 local & authentic

On September 8th, as part of the Abergavenny Food Festival Fringe, Abergavenny Community Centre and Abergavenny Town of Sanctuary hosted an evening of SYRIAN FOOD, CULTURE, COMMUNITY and CONVERSATION.

In the spirit of the Abergavenny Town of Sanctuary  movement we had an opportunity to break bread with local Syrian families and share in a culture that is steeped in history and tradition.  Syrian cuisine has evolved over many centuries and every dish has a story behind it. At September’s supper we will be served authentic food, made on site in the community kitchen, by people who truly understand the flavours of their ancient homeland.

Abergavenny Town of Sanctuary is a local branch of the City of Sanctuary movement which is committed to building a culture of hospitality and welcome.

They have teamed up with Abergavenny Community Centre’s Culture Kitchen project which hosts the World Bistro, a monthly communal meal inspired by Abergavenny’s cultural diversity.

Donations to the local work of the Abergavenny Town of Sanctuary can be made on the evening.  Please note that there will not be a bar tonight.   Ticket price includes a special Syrian drink - TAMARINDI.
